What you need this for
- Scanned documents for authorities and portals (ELSTER).
- A resume exported from a design app (LinkedIn Easy Apply).
- PDFs too large for an email (Outlook.com).
How it works
- Drop the PDF and read size, pages and number of embedded images.
- Enter the limit or choose the destination, then "Make it fit".
- Open the result and check that every page is readable.
All actions in this task
- Compress PDF
Shrinks images in the PDF until it is under the limit.
- Convert to greyscale
Turns scanned colour pages grey, which makes them much smaller.
Example
- 471.153 bytes
- 2 pages
- 138.571 bytes

How we checked this
Created with a sample file in the public tool, then the downloaded file was opened separately.
Limits
- Text-only PDFs barely shrink; the gain comes from images and scans.
- Signed or encrypted PDFs are rejected instead of being silently changed.
Questions
Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
It probably contains mostly text and fonts. Splitting it into parts is then the better route ("Fix and edit a PDF").
Is the text still searchable?
Yes, compression only touches images. Regenerating a PDF is different – see "Fix and edit a PDF".
Is my document uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser.
