Transparent PNG. Etsy does not support transparent PNG files. Cut-out product images from editing apps are often exactly that.
Animated GIF. Animated GIFs are not supported either; only a still image works.
Unsupported format. Only JPG, GIF, PNG, SVG, or HEIC are accepted. WebP and AVIF from the web fail.
Large files on slow connections. Etsy notes that big images may not finish uploading on slow connections.

Drop the photo and read the check.
Choose "Make it fit". Refentra converts to JPG and fills transparent areas with white.
Check edges of the product in the result, then upload it to your listing.

Etsy recommends at least 2,000 px on each side and at least 635 px for the first photo so it doesn't appear lower in search. Don't shrink pixels below that.
Converting to JPG removes transparency for good. Keep your PNG original.

Can I keep a coloured background instead of white?

Yes, edit the background in your image editor before converting; Refentra fills transparency with white.

How many photos can a listing have?

Etsy's image requirements page doesn't state a number; this check covers each file.
